The Western Chapter of the Michigan Mountain Biking Association, are ramping up for the 10th Annual Midwest Mountain Bike Summit,September 10th-12th in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The focus of the advocacy portion of the Summit will be the development of urban trail systems, including pump tracks and gateway trails. Registration is open via the Summit website, www.midwestmtbsummit.com, which is now up and running and will be updated regularly. Please help spread the word about the Summit so that we can make it the biggest and best Summit to date !

Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival

Join us for the 28th Annual Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival ! ! On Saturday of the event weekend, this 40 mile, mass start, point-to-point off-road bicycle event travels from downtown Hayward, WI, over the famed American Birkebeiner Ski Trail, forest roads, snowmobile trails and other wooded lanes to the finish line in Cable, WI. 1,700 participants will take part in this challenging fat tire marathon. Sunday Funday The Chequamegon's blend of fat tire family fun on Sunday, helps round out the weekend activities. Participants enjoy the Klunker Bike Toss, Lumber Jack & Jill Log Pull, Hammer Slammer Hill Climb and a Children's Bicycle Rodeo. Complimentary events, no registration necessary.

Your Twin Cities Trek, Gary Fisher Collection and Bontrager Dealers will be the host of this demo at Murphy. The new MTB trail is a ribbon of dirt cut through the beautiful woods and prairies of Murphy-Hanrehan Park, traveling up and down ridges, around small knolls, and across drainages and marshes. The trail is not super twisty and has fairly long sightlines. The goal here was flow. At almost 10 miles, it is one of the longer metro trails and has some great views from the top of the big ridge on the advanced loop. On a clear day you can see the skyline of downtown Minneapolis through the trees. - Murphy-Hanrehan Park Reserve is located just south of Savage, not too far from the Burnsville Center mall. The easiest way to get to the area is Interstate 35 (35W or 35E). Take the County Road 42 exit. Go west on CR-42, past all the malls and down the long hill. After roughly 2 miles on 42, take a left onto West Burnsville Pkwy. Shortly after Cam Ram Park, W. Burnsville Pkwy turns into Hanrehan Lake Blvd. Continue down Hanrehan Lake Blvd until Murphy Lake Road - the gravel road heading up into the prairie on your left. The trailhead parking is a short distance up Murphy Lake Road on the left.

Iceman is proud to present Ice Cycle Expo, a consumer outdoor show held in conjunction with the 2009 Iceman Cometh Challenge mountain bike race on Friday, November 5, 2010 at Grand Traverse Resort & Spa. This year's Ice Cycle Expo will be held in the Tennis Courts along with packet pick-up. The uniqueness of Ice Cycle Expo is a result of the calendar and that the show occurs on the cusp of the fall/winter season. In addition to bicycles and cycling products, camping equipment, outdoor clothing, car rack systems, and snowshoes. Last year 27 different sponsors and vendors displayed and/or sold their products over the course of the event weekend! Be sure to check out their booths for swag and the latest product information!

Iceman

The Iceman Cometh Challenge is a 27 mile point-to-point mountain bike race from Kalkaska to Traverse City, Michigan. Held traditionally on the first Saturday of November (except for years when the first Saturday of November is the 1st), the 20th annual Iceman will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2010. Just under $25,000 in cash prizes and $10,000 in merchandise prizes will be awarded. We will be providing test rides at the Timber Ridge Resort finish line. Timber Ridge's trails are directly connected to the Vasa Pathway and offer an exciting finish to the Iceman. The last leg of the Iceman race winds its way through Timber Ridge's trails, making the resort the perfect location for spectators to view the exciting and often tight finishes.

Your St. Louis Trek, Gary Fisher Collection and Bontrager Dealers will be the host of this demo at Castlewood State Park. Come out and ride the 2011 bikes ! We will be set up from 10 am to 3 pm. TRAIL DESCRIPTION- The three-mile Grotpeter Trail is hilly and technical as it winds through the park's wooded uplands. It can be accessed near the first picnic shelter. A one-mile hike is also possible from this trail. River Scene Trail is a 1.5-mile loop that begins opposite the entrance road to the first picnic shelter. It ascends to the bluffs along the Meramec River, then goes down to the flood plain along the river's edge and back to the starting point. The River Scene Trail is mostly dirt, fairly flat, with several short, technical sections. The Stinging Nettle Trail, named after the plant that lines the trail, is three miles long, primarily flat with several hills. A new trail called the Lone Wolf Trail just recently opened. The Chubb Trail also passes through Castlewood State Park, but it is south of the river and is not accessible from this trail.

- Castlewood is outside St. Louis near Ballwin, along Keifer Creek Road. Take Hwy 340 south until it turns into Keifer Creek Road. Go east on Kiefer Creek Road, off New Ballwin Road from Hwy 100. Or, from St. Louis, take 1-270 to Manchester west and turn south on Ries Road. Turn left on Keifer Creek Road and follow it to the trailhead. If you are coming from 1-44, exit at Hwy 141, Meramec Station Road, go right (north). Turn left onto Big Bend. Big Bend turns into Oak Street. Turn left at Ries Road. Go over the hill and turn left at the Castlewood sign.
